Tuz Visit Tuzigoot National Monument During your Sedona VacationWhen you are looking to do some exploring in the Sedona and Verde Valley area we highly suggest checking out the Tuzigoot National Monument located in Clarkdale, about 36 minutes from the Inn of Sedona (map).The Tuzigoot National Monument is an ancient village or pueblo built by a culture known as the Sinagua in the 13th century and was excavated between 1933 and 1934 as part of the New Deal.

The pueblo consisted of 110 rooms including second and third story structures. The TUZ2 Visit Tuzigoot National Monument During your Sedona Vacationfirst buildings were built around A.D. 1000. The Sinagua were agriculturalists with trade connections that spanned hundreds of miles. The people left the area around 1400. The current site is comprised of 42 acres. Take a few hours and discover the incredible legacy of an ancient people at Tuzigoot National Monument. A self-guided, 1/3-mile loop trail leads you around and through the incredible 110 room pueblo. The trail also offers outstanding views of the Verde River and Tavasci Marsh. Tips

  • Make sure to bring bottled water and stay hydrated, you may think that you will be there for a short time, but once you are there the views and history may have you changing your mind!
  • Entrance fees for Tuzigoot are collected inside the park Visitor Center during normal business hours.
  • Adults (16 and over): $5.00 (good for seven days)
  • Children (under 16): Free
  • Passes are available at a discounted rate of $8.00 for both Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle National Monuments. If you are planning on visiting both parks, ask for this discounted pass when you purchase your entrance fee at either park. There is no entrance fee for visiting Montezuma Well.
  • The visitor center and the Tavasci Marsh Overlook trail are wheelchair accessible. Wheeled vehicles, such as wheelchairs and baby strollers, are not recommended on the Ruins trail.
  •  The walk to the top of the Monument is a steady incline, but well worth it. The views from the top of the Monument are well worth the walk, just make sure not to leave your camera in the car!
  • Dogs, on leashes no longer than 6 feet, are welcome on the park’s trails. Pet owners must clean up after their animals.
  • Treat this National Monument with the respect it deserves and do not leave empty water bottles or trash.
