Good Eats at Up the Creek Grill & Bar
Welcome to our first edition of “Good Eats”. Last weekend we were heading from Sedona to Jerome and decided to take a side trip to a restaurant that our Front Desk Manager Saara recommended, Up the Creek Grill & Bar. We knew of the place when it was called Page Springs Restaurant but had not had the chance to try it out.
When we got there the parking lot was pretty full, (I always take that as a good sign), and there were a few people waiting outside. The restaurant is in a rustic old building that sits above the creek. It’s a very pleasant setting and it would be enjoyable to dine outside if the weather permits. They were rather busy that day, and a little behind, but the staff kept smiling! (another good sign) We were seated rather quickly and within minutes the owner was present helping the staff to catch up. I was in Food and Beverage for a long time and to see an owner pitching in to help tells me they are committed to good service!
The tables that overlook the creek naturally were all full but our little table in the corner suited us just fine. Their lunch menu offers a good variety including a roasted veggie sandwich and a grilled Portobello mushroom (perfect for the visiting vegetarian). My lunch companion and I were in a serious mood for a good burger! To our delight, Up the Creek Grill features Harris Ranch Grass-Fed organic hormone free lean beef!
The grill offered three specialty burgers: Page Springs, Sedona, and The Cowboy! I ordered the Sedona and upgraded to beer battered onion rings instead of fries and Liz ordered the Page Springs Burger. I only have one thing to say about the Sedona, OMG was it good! It came with smoked bacon, avocado, onion, Swiss, and chipotle mayo. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the bacon was crisp, a big plus in my book. The avocado was definitely fresh and the chipotle mayo rocked! The beer battered onion rings with spices & fresh Jalapeno ranch were some of the best I have ever had. I love when you can bite into a crunchy onion ring without the entire onion sliding out!
Liz’s burger was also rock solid and came with roasted green chili, sautéed mushrooms, cheddar and mayo! The only negative I would say is the fries are just fries, although they were seasoned. I definitely recommend getting the flavor packed Onion Rings instead.
We had no room for dessert, but we took home a slice of Buttermilk pie, and “Better than Brad Pit” Pie. The buttermilk pie reminded me of what we used to call sugar pie, and it was good, but the “Better than Brad Pit” was scrumptious!
With all that said, we highly recommend giving the Up the Creek Grill & Bar a try. The prices are fair, the service is friendly, and the food that we tried was delicious. We will be going back, next time we’ll check out their dinner menu, I hear their wild mushroom creamed bruschetta and baby back ribs can’t be beat!
