“Good Eats” at the Tavern Grille
By Lisa Peters
A couple of weeks ago I found myself strolling around Old Town Cottonwood looking for some unique holiday gifts and as the sun started to go down my stomach started rumbling. There was a chill in the air and in the distance I could see the neon sign of the Tavern Grille. I visited this establishment a year ago and had a decent meal, but not one of those meals that bring you back for more. Well I was hungry so decided to give it another try. I am glad I did! I noticed a difference the second I was greeted at the door with a smile. I was happy to be seated at cozy booth with a view of the game on one of their many TV’s!
My server was very quick to the table and even quicker to bring me my favorite brew along with some very crunchy bread sticks served with a delightful seasoned butter. I decided to start my meal off with a bowl of French Onion soup. Now, I am very picky about my onion soup and I was not disappointed. I followed that up with their Jalapeno Bacon Burger! I ordered my burger medium and to my surprise when the burger came to my table it was cooked to perfection (most places usually mess it up and I end up with a well done burger)!
The burger truly was awesome, not too much bun, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, just the right amount of jalapenos and very juicy! I also ordered the sweet potato fries, which were good but definitely played second fiddle to the burger.
Needless to say the Tavern Grille is back on my list of Good Eats in the Verde Valley and I am looking forward to going back and checking out some more of their menu. Hats off to you Tavern Grille, you went from an okay restaurant to a definite stand out! I truly appreciate a business that works hard at improving their food and service and does not settle for just being average!
