Birding, Nature, and Moonlight Sedona Hikes this Weekend

Do you love hiking in Sedona? Have you ever wanted to see how beautiful the red rocks are by the light of the moon, here is your chance! Tonight, May 24th, 2013, see Sedona in a whole new light, moonlight that is, with a guided “Moonlight” hike at Red Rock State Park! The park will also be offering a “Guided Bird Walk” this weekend on Saturday, May 25th, and every morning Red Rock State Park offers a “Guided Nature Walk”. Guided Moonlight Hike – 05/24/13
The Moonlight Hike is among the most popular interpretive hikes at the Park. Led by a naturalist, it gives hikers the rare opportunity to enjoy the sunset and moonrise from an overlook and return by the light of the moon, while also having the chance to learn about Sedona and its surrounding areas. Verde Valley and park history, as well as archeology, geology, botany, and riparian wildlife information, is offered. The hike lasts two to 2 1/2 hours and covers a distance of approximately two miles. Rangers ask hikers to arrive approximately 30 minutes before starting time to insure participation. No late arrivals can be allowed and reservations are required! When you call 928-282-6907, the arrival time will be given. Wear suitable clothing and shoes (prepare for cool nights) and bring water, a flashlight, and insect spray. A $5.00 per person program fee is charged at the time of the reservation. There is also a $10.00 entrance fee to the park for a car of four adults.
Guided Bird Walk – 05/25/13 (8:00 am)
Meet up with other bird lovers at the visitors center and enjoy a leisurely stroll through one of the most popular parks in Northern Arizona . Bird enthusiasts can join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginners as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. A limited number are available for loan from the Park.
Guided Nature Walk – Everyday (10:00 am – 12:00 pm)
Red Rock State Park gives you the opportunity to join a naturalist and go on a guided nature walk where you will learn more about the riparian ecosystem of Oak Creek and other aspects of the Park. Plants, wildlife, geology, history and archaeology are some of the subjects that may be discussed. Please feel free to ask questions, all the guides at the park go out of their way to answer questions and love for you to be involved in the conversation. The walk last one and a half to two hours.
