Things to do when it rains in Sedona, AZ

MonsoonsMonsoon season is upon us in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona, AZ. While it is true Sedona can see some heavy rains during monsoon season, they very seldom last the whole day. This is the dessert, so we are happy to see the rain, but often our guests and visitors are not. Who could blame them? I would rather be out hiking in the red rocks too! The rains during monsoon season normally hit us in the afternoon or early evening, which is another reason we suggest hiking adventures in the early morning… but then what? The number #1 question we get during this season is; ‘what is there to do when it rains?’

Cinema at the Mary D, Fisher Theatre

Get out of the rain and enjoy a flick at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre!  Home of the Sedona International Film Festival the theatre features independent films, award winning documentaries, live entertainment including Zenprov Comedy and more, all year long! This state-of-the-art theatre is locate at 2030 West Highway 89A. To see what’s playing and who’s performing while you are in town visit the Sedona International Film Festival online. If you are a guest of the Inn of Sedona, let us do the driving. We will be happy to drop you off and pick you up when you are ready to return to the hotel.

How about kicking back and enjoying some live entertainment

  • Olde Sedona Bar and Grill
Olde Sedona Bar & Grill is the place to be for late night fun featuring live bands, DJs and Karaoke! There’s always something good going on in this lively restaurant, sports bar, and entertainment venue. Eat, drink and have fun where the locals’ hang out! Make sure to visit Olde Sedona Bar and Grill on Facebook to see what’s happening when your in town.
  • Vino di Sedona
Vino di Sedona offers a wide variety of fun events such as wine tastings, live music, dance nights and much more! This lively wine bar is located at 2575 West State Rout 89A. To see what’s happening when your in town visit Vino di Sedona on Facebook.

Like we have said before, it’s very seldom that the rain lasts more than a couple of hours. Sometimes it only hangs around for about 30 minutes.  We highly suggest grabbing your camera and heading out after the rain. The red rocks are even more majestic after the washing. You might even catch a rainbow or two arching over the formations. I will have to admit, when the rain is gentle and there is no lightning in the sky you can often find me on the Red Rock Scenic Byway (SR 179) taking shots of the storm clouds over the red rocks.

T.J. Broscoff Returns to Sedona, AZ

Country Band T.J. Broscoff Returns for National Day of the Cowboy

image001

The weekend is almost here and all of Sedona is getting ready for the National Day of the Cowboy Celebrations including The Shops at Hyatt Pinon Pointe and Sound Bite Grill!

National Day of the Cowboy is observed annually on the fourth Saturday in July. It is a great way to celebrate the Western Heritage of our Country. This year it takes place both Friday July 22nd and Saturday July 23rd from High Noon to Dusk. The Shops at Hyatt Pinon Pointe have decided to get involved this year. Sound Bites Grill located at the shops will be hosting an encore concert Saturday July 23rd with country western dance band featuring T.J. Broscoff from Austin, TX at 7:00 pm following a day of fun activities at the Shops at Hyatt Pinon Pointe . Their will be a Cover charge of $15 per person. Doors open in the showroom at 5:30 pm for dinner. You will want to grab your best partner, some cowboy boots or dancing shoes for this evening! For more information about the band or to make reservations call 928.282.2713 or visit www.soundbitesgrill.com

More About T.J. Broscoff

T.J. Broscoff is changing the direction of country music. Based in Austin, Texas, T. J. has taken his time to develop a musical style all his own—one part traditional country, one part alternative, one part folk—and it’s all good.

TJ was raised in the suburbs of a major metropolitan area in Texas that afforded him the opportunity to be surrounded by tons of music and tons of friends. Along with those came influences that masqueraded themselves as a good thing. Turns out that became an issue. TJ went years deep into a situation that no one plans on doing. An Arizona desert brought TJ to the realization that enough was enough and he has never looked back.
T. J. fuses traditional country twang into alternative rhythms to create his own sound—a sound critics and listeners enjoy. His first release “Ready to Fly” launched five songs into the top 30 of Texas music—quite a feat for a new performer! His lyrics—which often focus on putting the demons of addiction behind him—remind us that he is ready to move forward, propelled by the determination to be a class artist!f

The first communities formed, culturally accomplished and able to define their identity not only through the mere physical survival but also to elevate their daily lives and primitive need to the complex level of pictorial expression. Summer Fun in Sedona, AZ

Best Western Plus Inn of Sedona

Enjoying the Summer Time in Sedona, AZ

summer sedonaVisiting Sedona, Arizona anytime of the year is fun, but for me, I love spending summertime with my family and friends in the red rocks of Sedona! Yes, it can get hot in the afternoon but summer is the perfect time for early morning hikes and beautiful sunset hikes. It is also a great time to enjoy the natural water slide at Slide Rock State Park, visit the wildlife at Out of Africa Wildlife Park, explore the red rocks in a Pink Jeep, and in the heat of the day I will often catch a unique film at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

As for the occasional storm that pops up, I rejoice in them, the red rocks get a good washing, making them even more beautiful, seeing the lightning in the red rocks is mind blowing, and the rainbows that are produced from the storms can’t be beat! Every now and then you will get a double rainbow arching over coffee pot rock which is just beautiful! And remember this is high dessert, rain is welcome and needed so we celebrate it! When a storm does come along it usually doesn’t last long and is followed by beauty.

Soldiers Pass Trail and Bell Rock Pathway are always high on my list for a sunset hike, especially for taking some amazing shots as the sun sets and light dances across the rocks. I know the exercise is important, but I have to admit sometimes I take more pictures than I put miles on my hiking boots! And sometime it is just too beautiful to photograph, you just have to stand there and soak it in. I also love taking my friends and family up to the airport mesa to take in the panoramic view of Sedona as the sun starts going down. As for early morning hikes, anywhere you like! I do prefer taking strolls instead of hikes in the morning, with that said my family enjoys the early morning bird walks at Red Rock State Park.

What about the heat of the day? The thing about Sedona and the Verde Valley is during the summer you never really know whether it’s going to be hot and sunny or whether an afternoon storm will move in! I like it both ways. On the warmer days there are a handful of fun things we like to do as a family. Out of Africa Wildlife Park, located in Camp Verde, AZ, is usually first on our list. We get there as soon as the park opens, the adults and kids in the family always have a good time visiting the wildlife. My niece is particularly fond of the park and I don’t think she could handle a visit without seeing one of the parks most popular attractions “Tiger Splash”! (of course her favorite animal in the park is the White Bengal Tiger, Chalet) I have many favorites there too, but if I had to pick, well I don’t have to pick, so I will say all of them!

When you’re looking for a day of family fun and a break from the Arizona heat, Slide Rock State Park is the place for you! Slide Rock State Park, originally the Pendley Homestead, is a 43-acre historic apple farm located in beautiful Oak Creek Canyon. Visitors to the park can slide down a slick natural water chute or wade and sun along the creek. They also have fifteen open air picnic tables, making it a perfect spot for a summer family fun day!

The state-of-the-art Mary D. Fisher Theatre is also a great place to cool off during the heat of the day. The Sedona International Film Festival brings great independent films and live events to this venue all year long! From Art & Architecture in Cinema, to Shakespeare Live on the big screen, to inspirational film and thought provoking documentaries, there is always something interesting to watch.

Another place I love to cool down is in the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. Known as the “Art and Soul of Sedona” Tlaquepaque’s courtyards are beautiful, the galleries are extraordinary, and the shade offered by the magnificent sycamores is very welcome on a hot day! Tlaquepaque is one of my very favorite places to bring my mom. She goes goggle eyed in the galleries, some of the art in the village is just breathtaking and we always find something for her to take home as a reminder of her visit.

Pink Jeep Tours into the red rocks are also popular during the summer. Our favorite would have to be the “Broken Arrow Tour” from Pink Jeep. That never gets old. I could take that tour every week and be just as excited every time. Some of my other favorites offered by Pink Jeep are the Sedona Vortex Tour and the Scenic Rim Tour.

I hope everyone has a great summer filled with friends, family and good times. If you are going to be visiting Sedona this summer I highly suggest taking a moment to check out the vacation packages at the Inn of Sedona, and for the spur of the moment getaways check out their Mobile Special!
