The beautiful blue skies and cooler weather of Autumn has arrived in Sedona, Arizona along with some very cool art exhibitions taking place this coming Friday, October 3rd, during Sedona’s First Friday Gallery Tour and on October 4th at the Jerome Art Walk. This is one weekend in the red rocks you don’t want to miss!

Below you will find a few of the exhibits and receptions taking place during Sedona’s First Friday Gallery Tour, to see a full listing of participating galleries please visit the Sedona Gallery Association on Facebook. For your convenience, the Sedona Trolley provides free transportation to venture from art gallery to art gallery. Fall is creeping into the red rocks of Sedona bringing cool crisp air, beautiful blue skies and of course the Annual Fall Festival at Slide Rock State Park. “Homecoming at the Homestead” is the theme for this year’s festival taking place on October the 4th, 2014. From watching the original apple sorting machine in action to informative and entertaining talks, from special kids activities to live music, there is something to enjoy for everyone in your family. Oh yeah, and you don’t want to miss the annual bake sale and raffle! I am sure you can find a tasty goody or two!

You are welcome to arrive at the park early and bring a picnic for your family to enjoy while you are exploring, learning and having some good old fashion fun at the park. Due to the late frost last April there is no apple crop, but what the park is lacking in apples this year it makes up for in fun!

Highlighted Festival Events

  • Arizonan guitarist singer songwriter, Jack Wilden will be playing in the Apple shed over lunch and again in the afternoon during the Festival.
  • Bring your binoculars and head up for a close up look at the birds of Slide Rock State Park. Dena Greenwood will give a talk titled ‘Birds of Slide Rock State Park- “How I 1st fell in love with birding” from 9:30 am – 10:00 am and lead a bird-walk from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.
  • Patty West will lead a wild plant walk at 10:30 am. Meet Patty at the shed for a fun and informative walk in the park to explore the wild side of Slide Rock State Park.
  • Slide Rock State Parks’ homestead history comes alive with the park’s own, Kathy Pendley Shaw who will present a talk and demonstrate the original apple sorting machine.
  • Story teller and musician, Tony Norris will capture the spirit of Oak Creek Canyon in story and song.

The Celebration begins at 9:00 am with activities, nature based exhibits, a variety of live animals, canoe rides (with or without assistance), sandcastle building and of course fishing for catfish in the lagoon! We also highly suggest taking a nature hike, along the river, where you will find beautiful large Cottonwoods. My family, enjoys hiking the Forest Loop Trail, part of the Ditch Trail and we usually end the day with the Verde River Greenway Trail. Sedona Guided Geology Hike

Red Rock State Park Sedona, AZ is Rocking with Things to do this Weekend!Join Red Rock State Park’s knowledgeable volunteers as they venture out on their trails and discuss how Sedona transformed into what we see today. Red Rock State Park is located at the base of the Mogollon Rim, the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Over millions of years of erosion the rim has receded over four miles leaving behind the picturesque features of Sedona. This is an interpretive experience for both the beginner and experienced hiker, lasting between 2-2 ½ hours and an elevation gain of 250 feet. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear. Guided Sedona Geology Hike at Red Rock State Park

Guided Geology Hikes are back at Red Rock State Park for the Fall Season!

Red Rock State Park Guided Sedona Geology Hike at Red Rock State ParkWe are excited to spread the word that Geology Hikes have returned to Red Rock State Park for the Fall season! Join the knowledgeable volunteers at Red Rock State Park this coming Sunday, September the 14th as they take you on an adventure on their beautiful trails while discussing how Sedona transformed into what we see today.

Red Rock State Park is located at the base of the Mogollon Rim, the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. The escarpment is over 200 miles long and ranges in elevation from 2,000 to 3,000 feet. Over millions of years of erosion the rim has receded over four miles leaving behind the picturesque features of Sedona.

This is an interpretive experience for both the beginner and experienced hiker, lasting between 2-2 ½ hours and an elevation gain of 250 feet. The Hike will take place at 1:00 pm and Red Rock State Park would like to remind everyone to please wear suitable shoes and to bring water.

Red Rock State park is open 7 days a week, from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and is located at 3807 Red Rock Loop Road. Entrance Fees: Adults (14 +) $5, Youth (7-13) $3, Children 6 and under are free. This treasured Arizona State Park offers guided hikes, bird walks, lectures and more through out the year.
