Zenprov Comedy Live in Sedona, AZ

Zenprov Comedy Presents “Comedy (D)Evolution!”

January 28th, 2017

evolutionposter_orig

Sometimes we all just need to have a good laugh! Visit Sedona, Arizona this coming weekend and get your fix of laughter at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre when Zenprov Comedy presents  “Comedy (D)Evolution!”  on Saturday, January 28th, at 7:30 pm!

The troupe has been busy evolving their show by developing a completely new lineup of fresh games that include turning audience pet peeves into Bible verses, improvising scenes based on random Facebook posts, and a choir of rants about the worst of 2016.

“Zenprov Comedy is the best improv troupe in Arizona,” said Mr. Patrick Schweiss, Executive Director of the Sedona International Film Festival. “At their last show, people were laughing so hard their cheeks were hurting.”

Similar to the improvised TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, Zenprov Comedy performs fast-paced, spontaneous comedic scenes created in the moment, always based on audience suggestions and often with hands-on participation with the actors. Unlike sketch or standup comedy, nothing is scripted or rehearsed ahead of time. It’s completely made up in the moment, and never the same show twice.

Derek Dujardin, the director of Zenprov Comedy, chimes in: “Whether you believe we evolved from apes or Adam and Eve, there’s a bigger philosophical question we should be asking—or maybe I should call it a ‘silly-sophical’ question? What kind of beings are we evolving into? Perhaps the filter of comedy will give us some clues.”

This performance will take place at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. Tickets for this show are only $12 pre-sale and $15 the day of the show! This one-night-only performance is expected to sell out so please purchase tickets early. For more information or to purchase tickets to this Sedona event please visit the Sedona International Film Festival. If you are a guest of the Inn of Sedona this weekend and wish to attend this show, make sure to leave the driving to us and take advantage of our Complimentary “About Town” Shuttle.

Sedona, Arizona

Fun Things to do, Events and Entertainment

January 20th – 22nd, 2017

winter-sedona

Get your cameras ready, it looks like snow is coming to the red rocks today and Saturday! If you love to snap photos we highly suggest spending the weekend taking shots of your favorite Sedona scenes all dressed up in white. Sedona is beautiful to shoot in the winter, whether you’re catching heavy clouds moving over the red rocks or the icing of snow on Coffee Pot Rock. Some of our favorite places to shoot are the Sedona Airport, our hotel’s terraced balconies (you can get some really good shots from here, including Thunder Mountain) and Bell Rock Pathway. The chapel and sculptures at Tlaquepaque make for a unique and artistic showcase for winter photos as well. Just in case photography is not your thing, below you will find live entertainment, and events taking place indoors. The sun promises a visit on Sunday when there will be a guided Ethnobotany tour of Sedona taking place at Red Rock State Park.

More about Bruce Hornsby

Hornsby’s work displays a creative iconoclasm that’s been a constant in the artist’s three-decade recording career. His commercial stock soared early on, when “The Way It Is”, the title track of his 1986 debut album, became one of the most popular songs on American radio.

Hornsby has built one of the most diverse, collaborative and adventurous careers in contemporary music. Drawing from a vast wellspring of American musical traditions, the singer/pianist/composer/bandleader has created a large and accomplished body of work and employed a vast array of stylistic approaches. Throughout this period, Hornsby has maintained the integrity, virtuosity and artistic curiosity that have been hallmarks of his work from the start.

Despite his early mainstream successes, Hornsby has pursued a more personal, idiosyncratic musical path, focusing on projects that sparked his creative interest, including collaborations with the Grateful Dead, Spike Lee, Ricky Skaggs, Don Henley, Ornette Coleman, Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Bonnie Raitt, Pat Metheny, and Robbie Robertson. Hornsby’s performance will offer a glimpse of a restless spirit who continues to push forward into exciting new musical terrain.

Fees: Ages 16 and up $5.00 / Under 16 Free

Sunset Crater Volcano was born in a series of eruptions sometime between 1040 and 1100. Powerful explosions profoundly affected the lives of local people and forever changed the landscape and ecology of the area. Lava flows and cinders still look as fresh and rugged as the day they were formed. But among the dramatic geologic features, you’ll find trees, wildflowers, and signs of wildlife – life returns. People had been living here for several hundred years, at least, before the volcano erupted. Although we don’t know what they called themselves, archaeologists consider them representatives of the Sinagua culture. They were farmers, living in scattered groups adjacent to their corn fields. Their homes were pithouses, dug partially into the ground. 900 years later, Sunset Crater is still the youngest volcano on the Colorado Plateau. The volcano’s red rim and the dark lava flows seem to have cooled and hardened to a jagged surface only yesterday. As plants return, so do the animals that use them for food and shelter. And so do human visitors, intrigued by this opportunity to see nature’s response to a volcanic eruption. Make sure to walk the Lava Flow Trail while you are there! For directions to this monument click here. For more information visit Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.

Walnut Canyon National Monument
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Free Entrance

Seasonal Hours – visit website
Fees:$5
Directions

Experience Walnut Canyon National Monument, once home to a vital pueblo community over 700 years ago that built their homes in shallow alcoves along the ledges of the canyon. Carved by Walnut Creek over a period of 6 million years the canyon is twenty miles long, 400 feet deep and 1/4 a mile wide. The canyon offers two trails, the Rim Trail that takes you on an easy beautiful stroll above the rim of the canyon and the Island Trail that is more strenuous and descends 185 vertical feet into the canyon! You will enjoy the scenic beauty the Rim Trail provided, but I have to tell you, if you can handle it, the Island Trail is the way to go! The Trail starts with a ramp type walkway down, then stairs taking you down further into the canyon where you will see cliff dwelling rooms along the trail with more visible across the canyon. The trail is paved making it a little easier to walk but I suggest if you have back problems, or a fear of heights, stick to the rim trail…Read More

From hunter-gatherers to farmers, herders, ranchers, and caretakers, many people have called Wupatki home. Less than 800 years ago, Wupatki Pueblo was the largest pueblo around. It flourished for a time as a meeting place of different cultures. Yet this was one of the warmest and driest places on the Colorado Plateau, offering little obvious food, water, or comfort. The builders of Wupatki and nearby pueblos have moved on, but their legacy remains. It will take about 2 hours to see five prehistoric pueblos. If you have less time, allow at least 30 minutes to visit the largest Wupatki Pueblo located behind the Visitor Center. For more information visit the Wupatki National Monument.
