Sedona Gallery AssociationVisit Sedona, Arizona this weekend and enjoy the talented creations of our local artists at First Friday Gallery Tour on August 3rd, 2012! These special art receptions and exhibits give locals and Sedona visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments while beginning their weekends with an exploration of Sedona’s exciting art scene. Below you will find a few of the exhibits and receptions taking place during this event, to see a full listing of participating galleries please visit the Sedona Gallery Association. For your convenience, the Sedona Trolley provides free transportation to venture from art gallery to art gallery. We also offer our guest free shuttle service to uptown Sedona and the Tlaquepaque Arts and Craft Village. All of the exhibits and artist receptions for 1st Friday run from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. On Saturday, make sure to head up to Jerome, Arizona for the Jerome Art Walk.

“Canyon Inspirations”
Indulge in the wonders and imaginative works created for this month’s exhibition at Sedona Arts Center. Experience the beauty of artists Caroline Linscott, Jerry Pond, Wade Mongold, Margo Mitchell and Rita Elaine Elkins , whose love of color, texture and landscape surpasses, only marginally, her interest in people and the challenge of new subjects and media. at this Fine Art Gallery event in Uptown Sedona.

Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village
Andrea Smith Gallery – Local artist and author, Naomi C. Rose

The Andrea Smith Gallery in the Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts village welcomes back local artist and author, Naomi C. Rose, for Sedona’s First Friday event in August. They will be exhibiting the vibrant artwork found in Rose’s inspiring stories of wisdom and peace. Rose’s book, Tibetan Tales from The Top of the World is endorsed by the Dalai Lama, and includes a preface by Richard Gere, an advocate for human rights in Tibet.

Lanning Gallery
First Friday Exhibit “The Art of Summer”
Ease through summer with a fascinating group show: “The Art of Summer” showcases work of close to a dozen artists: paintings, colorful outdoor sculpture that moves, glass art in ocean hues and so much more. Featured will be works such as “Yellow Rose” by Leslie Montana, an oil on canvas painting that measures 32”h x 36”w; the face of this stunningly large blossom, wet with dew, fills the canvas. Montana’s process involves an intimate recognition and understanding of the rich tapestry of light and color being broadcast through the amazing life forms she works with. Stop into the gallery for a cool respite from summer’s heat and enjoy the season as it’s seen through artists’ eyes.

Goldenstein Gallery
“The Current”
Join the Godenstein Gallery on 1st Friday for the opening reception  “The Current” an exhibition that celebrates a stunning array of art from award winning gallery artists who have captivated and inspired collectors from around the globe. Their amazing talent features art that is full of color, motion, and a fresh sensibility that is fun yet sophisticated. Some of the artists highlighted are deeply rooted in tradition, while other artists flourish with new styles capturing the imaginations of today. Representing 40 diverse artists, primarily local and regional, the gallery is a multi-faceted celebration of independent vision. Among the artists featured in this show are Art Decker, Cheston Trammel, Marilyn Bos & Marlys Mallet.

Mountain Trails Galleries -” Celebrating Native Culture”
Mountain Trails Galleries opens a new exhibition of painting and sculpture that pays tribute to the Native culture on First Friday with receptions in both Tlaquepaque galleries. Celebrating Native Culture features Navajo/Ute sculptor Oreland C. Joe and Ojibwe painter John Potter who bring inspiration to their friends and collectors with new artwork for First Friday’s Gallery Art Walk.

First Friday Exhibit – “Ancient Art”
“Ancient Art” showcases myriad forms of art which portray pictograph or petroglyph imagery. The gallery offers not only prints and ceramics but also raku and many exquisite jewelry pieces, by artists such as Mummy’s Bundle, that feature the ancient shapes and forms favored by the ancestors or our region’s Native people. Stop into the gallery to see ancient art reinterpreted through the eyes of today’s artists.
