If you are visiting Sedona, AZ this coming weekend and love pecans, wine, kayaking, archaeology, and family fun then we highly recommend taking a day trip to Camp Verde! The Spring Heritage Pecan & Wine Festival, Verde River Runoff, Verde Valley Archaeology Fair & American Indian Art Show all take place this weekend. The town of Camp Verde is located only 40 minutes from Sedona (see map below), and is home to many of the Verde Valley attractions such as Fort Verde State Historic Park, Cliff Castle Casino, Montezuma Castle, Out of Africa Wildlife Park, and the Verde Valley Archaeology Center.

Spring Heritage Pecan and Wine Festival

Pecan-Wine-680x1024The Town of Camp Verde, its sponsors and its partners, are pleased to announce that the 2016 Spring Heritage Pecan & Wine Festival will take place in downtown Camp Verde. The Festival is actually a handful of events rolled into one: Camp Verde Pecan & Wine Festival, Verde Valley Archaeology Fair, Verde River Runoff canoe and kayak race, and a host of activities surrounding Arizona State Parks Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. Admission to all events is free. Charges will apply for wine tasting and race participants. Verde Valley Archaeology Fair & American Indian Art Show
March 19th – 20th, 2016

2016FairExperience the excitement of archaeology with dozens of hands-on activities, several films throughout the two days of the show, presentations about the American West and especially Arizona, and special programs. The Fair includes the annual American Indian Art Show with artists from Hopi, Navajo land, Zuni and several New Mexico pueblo communities. Artists will demonstrate their medium and have their work available for sale. The Art Show is in the Community Center with the archaeology exhibits.

The Verde Valley Archaeology Fair and International Archaeology Film Festival are held during Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month in March. their events have been recognized as a “Premier Signature Event” of the Arizona SciTech Festival. Verde River Runoff

Entry fee is $25 for 5-mile and $50 for 10-mile.
runofflogoThe Verde River Runoff will once again host their very popular river event during the Pecan & Wine Festival. There is a 5 and 10 Mile Canoe/Kayak race with a new stand-up board category this year. Experience a beautiful stretch of the Verde River from White Bridge, Camp Verde to Beasley Flats! Join the Awards and After-Party at the Pecan and Wine Festival behind the Camp Verde Community Center, 395 S Main Street, Camp Verde, AZ. All proceeds benefit the conservation and outdoor recreation in and on the Verde River Valley. With multiple categories for entry, the Verde River Runoff is a great river run for a variety of experienced paddlers. Free Birding Excursions
 March 20th, 2016
See and hear plenty of birds and also learn about the natural history of the Verde River, one of the premier birding venues in the southwest! The excursions will depart from Rezzonico Family Park at 8:30 am and will last approximately 90 minutes. Rezzonico Family Park is located in the Town of Camp Verde at the southwest corner of Montezuma Castle Highway and the Verde River at Black Bridge. It is 2.85 miles from I-17 on Montezuma Castle Highway toward Camp Verde, and .55 miles on Montezuma Castle Highway from Main Street in Camp Verde.  If you have binoculars, please bring them. Drinking water and walking or hiking shoes are also recommended.  Pre-registration is required.
