What a great weekend to visit Sedona, Arizona and the Verde Valley, especially if you love exploring the arts! This weekend kicks off Friday, June 3rd, with the inaugural Plein Air Painting Legacy Event at Tlaquepaque “Palet”, and Sedona’s First Friday Gallery Tour! And then on Saturday evening the town of Jerome will be holding their “Art Walk”. Below you will find a few of the exhibits and receptions taking place during Sedona’s First Friday Gallery Tour, to see a full listing of participating galleries please visit the Sedona Gallery Association on Facebook.

For your convenience, the Sedona Trolley provides free transportation to venture from art gallery to art gallery. If you are staying at the Best Western Plus Inn of Sedona, we also offer our guest free shuttle service to uptown Sedona and the Tlaquepaque Arts and Craft Village. All of the exhibits and artist receptions for 1st Friday run from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Tlaquepaque introduces Palet
June 3rd – 5th, 2016
308381384Mark your calendar for the inaugural Plein Air Painting Legacy Event at Tlaquepaque “Palet”! In collaboration with the Sedona Arts Center, this weekend –long event features invited plein air artists painting truly in the moment to capture the light in real time – no cameras will be used once the invited artists arrive to participate in Palet. In addition, there will be 3 live figurative models staged around Tlaquepaque from 2-5pm each day, providing artists with live portrait opportunities. Visitors are welcome to engage with the artists participating in Palet and view finished work for sale at the Main Exhibition Tent throughout the weekend. Sedona’s 1st Friday Evening in the Galleries Exhibits

The Sedona Arts Center celebrates the seasons with the June gallery exhibition, Summer Solstice. The show features new works by Viki Norris, Chrisanne Finefrock, Julie Ronning Talbot, and Nori Thorne and combines pastels, acrylics, jewelry and watercolor. “This quartet of artists represents the incredible talent we have in our community,” said the Arts Center’s Jenny Reed. “Visitors this summer will discover a gallery filled with diverse artists, mediums, and forms of expression—all created locally.” For more information please visit the Sedona Arts Center.

Sailing Away: The Encaustic Art of Slava TCH

 Lanning GalleryLanning Gallery in Sedona, Arizona opens a new exhibition to unveil the latest luminous and imaginative encaustic paintings by renowned artist Slava TCH. Not many artists have the skills to master the challenging technique of encaustic but Slava TCH (full name Viatcheslav Tchstiline) came to the medium as an accomplished artist. Encaustic painting, the medium is a combination of beeswax and pigment, was practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C. It has always been a complicated process, one that requires skillful preparation of the medium and, in the use of the medium while it is in a heated, liquid state, depends on precise timing and control of temperature for its application.For more information please visit the Lanning Gallery.

View-Through-the-JunipersThere is something infinitely romantic about the image of the painter at his easel, carefully capturing the scene in front of him under the gaze of a brilliant blue sky. Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village recognizes that, which is why it is hosting its Plein Air Legacy Event at Tlaquepaque (PALET) June 3-5. Three of the 11 juried artists participating in the event are represented by Rowe Fine Art Gallery. The rich history of Native American designs, in particular Zuni Pueblo jewelry designs, greatly influenced the growth of Feeney’s personal style.
