Red Rock State Park in Sedona, Arizona has a great line up of guided hikes and workshops in store for you this February. From a guided geology hike to bird and nature walks to a workshop on “Basic Tracking” with Tony Nestor and another featuring Cathy Stedman focusing on the basics of watercolor painting! This is definitely going to be a fun month to visit the park!
Sedona Guided Geology Hike

Join Red Rock State Park’s knowledgeable volunteers as they venture out on their trails and discuss how Sedona transformed into what we see today. Red Rock State Park is located at the base of the Mogollon Rim, the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. Over millions of years of erosion the rim has receded over four miles leaving behind the picturesque features of Sedona. This is an interpretive experience for both the beginner and experienced hiker, lasting between 2-2 ½ hours and an elevation gain of 250 feet. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear. Basic Tracking with Tony Nester
February 14th, 2015 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm)
Red Rock State Park is pleased to present Tony Nester. for a workshop on the basics of tracking. This is an introductory class that will cover both animal and man-tracking skills. You will learn the basics of track identification from aging prints, interpreting the stories in tracks, gait patterns, how to follow a person over varied terrain and how to pick up a lost trail. Participants need to bring a sack lunch, water, sunglasses, and notebook. Space is limited to 15 participants, so call ahead to reserve your spot. Structures and Building Watercolor Workshop
February 28th, 2015
Red Rock State Park will be hosting Cathy Stedman for their ongoing workshop series on the basics of watercolor painting. This will be an introductory to intermediate class. The series will cover the basics to watercolor painting-instruction and techniques with a theme each month; February’s theme will be incorporating buildings and structures within the landscape with the option to focus on Red Rock’s very own House of Apache Fire. Space is limited to 12 participants, so call ahead to reserve your spot. The workshop reservation fee is $50.00, which includes entry and all supplies or $40.00 with your own supplies. Red Rock State Park – Guided Bird Walk
Every Wednesday and Saturday Morning (9:00 am)
Meet up with other bird lovers at the visitors center at 9:00 am and enjoy a leisurely stroll through one of the most popular parks in Northern Arizona . Daily Nature Walk
Every Day at 10:00 am
you can join a naturalist for a guided nature walk of one and a half to two hours. You will be introduced to the riparian ecosystem of Oak Creek and other aspects of the Park.
