Rocky Horror Picture Show in Sedona, AZ

Sedona, AZ: Rocky Horror Picture Show

rockyhorror-poster

October 30th, 2017

Are you ready to have some early Halloween “Rocky Horror” fun in the red rocks of Sedona, AZ? Just in time for Halloween: “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, the outrageous cultural phenomenon that has been a hit with movie lovers for nearly four decades, returns to the big screen at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre tonight, October 30th at 7:00 pm!

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the return one-night-only engagement! Tickets are only $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. Feel free to dress in costume and come dance, sing along and do the time warp with other Rocky Horror fans!

This classic, cultural institution, and a world-wide phenomenon since 1975, concerns the misadventures of Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) inside a strange mansion that they come across on a rainy night. After the wholesome pair profess their love through an opening song, their car breaks down in the woods, and they seek refuge in a towering castle nearby.

Greeting them at the door is a ghoulish butler named Riff Raff (Richard O’Brien), who introduces them to a bacchanalian collection of partygoers dressed in outfits from some sort of interplanetary thrift shop. The host of this gathering is a transvestite clad in lingerie, Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry), a mad scientist who claims to be from another planet. For more information or to purchase tickets please visit the Sedona International Film Festival.

If you are a guest of the Best Western Plus Inn of Sedona our Complimentary “About Town” shuttle will drop you off and pick you up from the theatre!

Zenprov Comedy Live in Sedona, AZ

Zenprov Comedy Presents

‘Welcome to the “Funhouse”

October 28th, 2017

Are you looking for some Halloween fun and laughter in Sedona, AZ? Look no further than Zenprov Comedy’s special Halloween show “Welcome To The Funhouse” showing at the Mary Fisher Theater on October 28th, 2017 at 7:30 pm! .This is a PG-13 Show, bring the whole family!

“Halloween is our favorite time to perform because there is so much material. Getting up in front of an audience with nothing prepared is scary enough. Adding a few monsters, creepy situations, and corn-syrup filled candies with razor blades, and it gets very funny, very fast”. – Derek Dujardin, the troupe’s director.

If you’ve never attended one of their live performances before, Zenprov Comedy is similar to the popular improvised TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The troupe performs fast-paced games and scenes created in the moment, always based on audience suggestions. Unlike sketch or standup comedy, nothing is rehearsed or scripted ahead of time. Best of all, it’s never the same show twice.

“Zenprov Comedy is the best improv troupe in Arizona,” said Mr. Patrick Schweiss, Executive Director of the Sedona International Film Festival. “At their last show, people were laughing so hard their cheeks were hurting.”

Dujardin also said they’ll perform an old audience favorite “Sound Effects” where the audience members will create the sound effects for a haunted house and the actors will have to justify the creepy sound (good or bad) into an established scene. Also, troupe will stage “Sedona Realty” where a Sedona realtor will do his best to sell a haunted home to unsuspecting buyers with a lot wrong with the house. The troupe will also perform a long-form “Harold” based something audience says they are afraid of.

Zenprov show tickets always sell out quickly, we highly suggest purchasing your tickets now.  Tickets for this show are only $12 pre-sale and $15 the day of the show! This one-night-only performance is expected to sell out so please purchase tickets early. For more information or to purchase tickets to this Sedona event please visit the Sedona International Film Festival. If you are a guest of the Inn of Sedona this weekend and wish to attend this show, make sure to leave the driving to us and take advantage of our Complimentary “About Town” Shuttle.

Sedona Fall Hikes: West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon

West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon

When it comes to Fall hikes in the Sedona, Arizona area my all time favorite hike would have to be the West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon. Fall is the most popular time of year to take this hike when the beautiful red rocks and clear blue skies serves as the perfect backdrop for the vibrant fall foliage in Oak Creek Canyon, but there is no bad time of year to enjoy this hike.

A couple of falls ago my niece Sara came for a visit, and we were both ready to hit the trails and explore. Since Sara has never been on the West Fork Trail and I was aching for some clean crisp air, vibrant colors of fall and the painted scenery of towering cliffs against the crystal blue sky we decided West Fork was going to be the first hike!

We arrived at the trail very early in the morning and was glad that I remember to layer clothing. It was a bit nippy there and let me tell you if you are planning a fall hike on West Fork you will want to do the same. When you first start the trail plenty of sunshine will warm you, but the further you get along the trees provide a great deal of shade, making those early morning hikes a bit chilly.

When you get to the bridge that crosses over the creek make sure to take a minute and just hang out and enjoy the scenery. On this last trip there was a young man Fly fishing which kept me entertained for some time. Not to far from the bridge you come into a section of the canyon were towering cliffs engulf you. You can’t help but just stand there in amazement. You can see were water falls of the cliff, in fact there was still some slowly running down from a rain storm early in the week. The shutterbugs out there will love this hike; there are awe inspiring images throughout the entire hike. I have been known to stop dead in my tracks to catch a photo of the cliffs peeking through the trees. To check out some of my photos of this hike click here.

There will be a three mile marker and just past that there is a steep climb across the wooded hillside that drops down into a stony area mid river. This marks the end of the official path and hiking beyond this point takes a very experienced hiker. I highly recommend that you if you are inexperienced do not go any farther. I have gone a little bit passed this point and realized I was not ready to handle it yet. In fact if you choose to travel all 14 miles from one end of the canyon to the other, plan to do a lot of wading and boulder hopping, and even some swimming.

This three mile hike takes you into the beautiful Canyon and stays fairly level and near the creek. You will however benefit from wearing a good pair of hiking boots. There are tree roots that you can easily trip over if you are not paying attention to were you are walking and keep in mind that there are place where you will be crossing the stream. The rocks crossing the creek can be slippery and I myself have taken a splash. Now I always bring extra socks! This is one of the most popular hikes in Arizona and can be extremely busy. I would recommend either going in the early morning or during the week.

The West Fork and Oak Creek Canyon typically peak around the third week of October. Sedona and the Verde Valley don’t typically turn until the end of October and into November. This page will be filled out and updated regularly as we get information and the season progresses. – from the Cocnoino National Forest Website. Fall Colors on the Coconino National Forest
