Fun things to do in the Red Rocks this Weekend

What a beautiful weekend to visit Sedona, Arizona! Sunshine and a high of 86° today, 81° Saturday and 77° on Sunday! To go along with the beautiful days there are some fun events taking place in Sedona and the Verde Valley.
Tonight enjoy live entertainment at Sound Bites Grill when Jeordi hits the main stage and Brother to Brother will be live at Olde Sedona Bar and Grill. Wake up early on Saturday and enjoy a bird walk at Red Rock State Park, followed by National Train Day celebrations at the Verde Canyon Railroad, or visit Jerome State Historic Park for the 100th anniversary of the mansion. On Sunday learn more about the archaeology of the area with a guided hike at Red Rock State Park, and personally I believe I will be spending some of this beautiful weekend at Out of Africa Wildlife Park, it has been a while since I have been to Tiger Splash!

Sedona Entertainment: Jeordie

Red Rock State Park – Guided Bird Walk

Bird enthusiasts can join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginning as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. A limited number are available for loan from the Park. No matter the time of day, visitors can check out the many birds who make Red Rock State Park their home. The bird-feeding area behind the visitor center, on the Hummingbird Patio, is an excellent spot to start your tour or to take pictures. National Train Day Celebration (Clarkdale, AZ)
May 14th, 2016
On National Train Day, Verde Canyon Railroad applauds the important history of American railroads with an entertaining and educational event at their Clarkdale depot. Explore our outdoor storyboards and take a tour of the John Bell Museum. Liberty Wildlife will be sharing rescued educational birds with all guests at the depot, as well as on board the train. Jerome State Historic Park’s Anniversary

The Douglas Mansion has been an eye-catching landmark in Jerome since 1916. Built by James “Rawhide” Douglas above his Little Daisy Mine at a cost of $150,000. It was donated by his sons, James and Lewis Douglas, and opened as the 5th Arizona State Park on October 16th, 1965. It’s the 100th anniversary of the mansion and its 50th anniversary as a State Park. Come explore the museum, listen to guest speakers and local musicians, and visit with rock and mineral traders. Guided Archaeology Hike

Red Rock State Park has been a destination for Native Americans for several millennia. Most of the ancient features found in the park are from the Sinagua culture dating about 1100 to 1425 AD. Come and hear the fascinating story of the pre-Columbian people who lived and traveled in the park! The hike will identify the various archaeological features and interpret them into the wider context of important regional Sinagua sites. Explore ideas of other cultures that may likely have made use of the park’s resources. The hike will last about two hours, with an elevation gain of some 250 feet, along easy trails.
