Ballet in Cinema: The Nutcracker

Sedona International Film Festival Presents Ballet in Cinema: The Nutcracker

December 20th, 2015

Nutcracker-posterExperience a holiday treasure at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in Sedona, AZ on December 20th, when the Sedona International Film Festival presents Ballet in Cinema: “The Nutcracker” from the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow! There will be only one showing at 4:00 pm, tickets for this special event are only $15 for general admission, or $12.50 for Film Festival members! And if you are a guest of the Best Western PLUS Inn of Sedona and are planning to attend this showing take advantage of our Complimentary “About Town” shuttle that will drop you off at theatre and pick you up when you are ready to return to the hotel.

“The Nutcracker”

Tchaikovsky’s treasured holiday masterpiece, “The Nutcracker” features choreography by Yuri Grigorovich. Principal dancers include Anna Nikulina (Marie), Denis Rodkin (The Nutcracker Prince), Andrei Merkuriev (Drosselmeyer) and Vitaly Biktimirov (The Mouse King), along with the Bolshoi Corps de Ballet.

On Christmas Eve, Marie is given a wooden nutcracker as a gift. When the clock strikes midnight and the celebrations are over, all the toys come to life. The Nutcracker, at the helm of the tin soldiers, transforms and saves Marie from the Mouse King and his army.

After victoriously defeating the mouse army, the Nutcracker, now a handsome young prince, whisks Marie away into their magic boat to the Land of Sweets. Marie and the Nutcracker-Prince are radiant with happiness: they have reached the kingdom of their dreams. Joyous celebrations can now begin. Yet, it appears it was all just a dream.

This beloved holiday classic will enchant the whole family with its fairytale setting and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score. The Bolshoi’s version of “The Nutcracker” has a unique and beautiful sense of romance and philosophy.

For more information or to purchase tickets to this special holiday event please visit the Sedona International Film Festival.
