Keeping that in mind, we highly suggest exploring and hiking the red rocks in the morning and evening hours. Maybe take a dip at Slide Rock State Park, or a cooler hike at West Fork Trail. Below you will find live entertainment and events taking place this weekend, we have included some interesting cinema choices showing at the Mary D. Fisher theater that you might enjoy during the hotter hours of the day, including a special showing of San Francisco Ballet’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’.

The Sedona International Film Festival is please to present ‘A Hologram for the King’ at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. In recession-ravaged 2010, American businessman Alan Clay (Tom Hanks), broke, depressed and freshly divorced, arrives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. His mission: sell a state-of-the-art holographic teleconferencing system to the Saudi government. Adrift and alone in an unfamiliar land, Alan befriends taxi driver Yousef (Alexander Black), who chauffeurs him through the desert to the “King’s Metropolis of Economy and Trade,” a surreal ghost town of vacant skyscrapers and half-completed construction projects. The Verde Valley Archaeology Center is pleased to present a summer of free archaeology films on Friday evenings at 6:30 pm in June, July and August in Sedona and Camp Verde.The Sedona films are shown at the Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road. Red Rock State Park – Guided Bird Walk

HOME_653Bird enthusiasts can join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk”. Beginning as well as advanced birders are welcome. Rangers recommend that visitors bring their own binoculars. A limited number are available for loan from the Park. No matter the time of day, visitors can check out the many birds who make Red Rock State Park their home. Learning more about the native plants and trees here in the Sedona area is a great way to enhance any hike! Join Jim Charest as he explains how plants were used for various reasons by local indigenous cultures and by people in our contemporary times. This interpretive experience is for both the beginner and experienced hiker, lasting between 2-2 ½ hours with an elevation gain of 250 feet. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear.
