12th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival

This October the Sedona Arts Center presents a week-long celebration of Sedona’s extraordinary beauty as seen through the eyes and talent of 30 of the finest painters in the country. “En Plein Air”, a French term that translates to “in the open air”, describes paintings that have been created outdoors rather than in a studio. The spectacular red rock scenery and temperate climate of Sedona create the perfect location for plein air painting. The week long festival will feature these painters all over town,on the streets, trail-heads, creeks and vistas, capturing the beauty of the Sedona area on canvas. Ales on Rails at the Verde Canyon Railroad

alesThere are parties and shindigs and then there is Oktoberfest! Of course Verde Canyon Railroad never misses out on a good time so they roll out their popular Ales on Rails every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October. The party starts at 11:00 am on the depot patio with a mouthwatering luncheon ($11) of German sausages, sauerkraut, potato salad, pretzels and strudel, all served to the rhythmic tunes of a polka serenade. A $10 logo beer glass comes with five beer tastings. The 1:00 p.m. train whistle signals the continuation of the party as it moves onto the rails with specialty beers served on board, including Verde Canyon Railroad’s own private-labeled brews, crafted in Sedona by the renowned Oak Creek Brewery. Fall Arts and Craft Fair

Red Rock Artists Open Studios Tour

RRAOSTDon’t miss the Red Rock Artists second annual Open Studios Tour! This free event will feature 28 professional artists in Sedona and Cornville who are opening their private studios to show their latest work. There will be a wide variety of mediums including: glass, ceramics, painting, mixed media, fiber, photography, digital art, jewelry, watercolor and metal sculpture. It is a wonderful opportunity to see inside working studios to gain a deeper understanding of the creative process. Red Rocks Oktoberfest

RROFThe Rotary Club of the Sedona Red Rocks is hosting the Red Rocks Oktoberfest on at the Posse Grounds Park. This traditional German celebration of the harvest season features 10+ local brewers showcasing their finest beers. This event moved locations to the park to allow for a longer event, more people, better views, parking, food, etc! A portion of all proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks. Guided Ethnobotany of Sedona Hike

Learning more about the native plants and trees here in the Sedona area is a great way to enhance any hike! Join Jim Charest as he explains how plants were used for various reasons by local indigenous cultures and by people in our contemporary times. This interpretive experience is for both the beginner and experienced hiker, lasting between 2-2 ½ hours with an elevation gain of 250 feet. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear.
