Sedona Plein Air Festival

Sedona, Arizona

13th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival

October 14th – 21st, 2017

Art lovers will be flocking to Sedona, Arizona this coming weekend to experience over two dozen master painters in action in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona! The Sedona Plein Air Festival returns for a week-long celebration of extraordinary landscapes, world-renowned artists, unique workshops, and wonderful free events from October 14th to 21st, 2017!

“En Plein Air”, a French term that translates to “in the open air”, describes paintings that have been created outdoors rather than in a studio. The spectacular red rock scenery and temperate climate of Sedona create the perfect location for plein air painting. The week long festival will feature these painters all over town,on the streets, trail-heads, creeks and vistas, capturing the beauty of the Sedona area on canvas. These incredibly talented artists are coming to the Sedona area from all over the United States to spend seven days painting en plein air, and to share their incredible talent and unique experiences with this challenging art form.

There is a great selection of workshops available during the festival, to see a full listing of workshops an their cost please visit

Special Guest Artist Alan Wolton

As the Sedona Arts Center embarks on its 60th Anniversary Celebration, Alan Wolton is also celebrating his 60th Anniversary painting. The Arts Center has been honoring Sedona’s Legacy Artists as part of their anniversary celebrations. For Alan Wolton, joining the Sedona Plein Air Festival is the perfect fit as an exhibiting artist with works done in the Sedona area. Wolton’s life-long dedication to plein air painting is seen through his brilliant creations—always working outdoors as large as he could in various landscapes from his beginnings in London, to his explorations in South Africa to his more recent paintings in the Sedona area and in Venice, Italy. With over sixty years of painting, Alan has developed a rich, personal style of thick, creamy paint application contrasted with areas of subtle wash and delicate scumbling of paint. The Sedona Plein Air Festival is honored to exhibit his work in this special anniversary year.
